Shooting at Howe Park Sends 4 People Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a shooting incident that broke out Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment officers were dispersing an unsanctioned gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Sacramento County law enforcement initially responded to Howe Park shortly before half past six in the evening after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Not long after, another report was received regarding a reported physical confrontation occurring near the park.

Aerial units searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it was evident that hundreds of people had gathered without authorization without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Law enforcement personnel moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing attendees to go home. Around 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.

Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.

Those Who Were Hit

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The four individuals — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their 20s — were rushed to Sacramento area hospitals. Emergency physicians confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire also responded and aided in treating shooting victims prior to hospital transport.

Evidence at the Scene

The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have occurred near Cottage Way adjacent to the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators Howe Park shooting Sacramento identified additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet damage were identified in the iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. This evidence showed that at least one of the shooters had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Crime scene personnel continued working late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Information relayed via scanner audio showed that a suspect Kia was contacted by law enforcement in Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for investigation. Video that was reviewed showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
